Jobs With Justice Slams ‘Reprehensible’ U.S. Supreme Court Decisions for Delivering a Major Blow to Working People

Washington, DC  – Today Jobs With Justice slammed a series of reprehensible rulings from the U.S. Supreme Court this week that dealt a major blow to working people, including its blockbuster decision overturning Roe v Wade

Erica Smiley, Executive Director of Jobs With Justice, stated the following:

“For the first time in history, the US Supreme Court removed a bedrock constitutional right, overturning Roe v. Wade and letting states institute complete bans on abortion.

“Jobs With Justice stands with working women around the country in condemning this radical assault on our rights and settled law. We also join the call for government leaders, corporate CEOs, and workers everywhere to do everything in their power to protect women’s rights to control their bodies and access necessary health care, including the ability to terminate a pregnancy.

“We further condemn SCOTUS’ decision to curtail the EPA’s power to combat climate change under the Clean Air Act, a ruling with profound consequences for climate policy and all federal agencies’ ability to write and enforce regulations. SCOTUS also made our neighborhoods less safe by taking away states’ and cities’ power to limit people’s ability to carry guns in public.

“SCOTUS’ reprehensible decisions this week culminate decades of attacks on working people through lawsuits financed by billionaire CEOs and decided by right-wing judges.

“Today does not mark the end of the fight but the beginning of a new chapter. Members of the Jobs With Justice network and other courageous BIPOC-led groups like All* Above All will continue fighting for an inclusive view of reproductive justice that places the right to healthcare on a more solid working people-focused footing.”
