Let’s Reclaim the Promise of Public Education

Increased class sizes. School closings. Staff layoffs. Cuts in extracurricular activities. The collateral damage from the ongoing attacks and defunding of public education is mounting, and the need to champion great public schools is stronger than ever.

Today, Jobs With Justice coalitions across the country will join with parents, students, teachers, school staff, and other community and labor movement partners like the AFT and NEA at more than 60 events for a national day of action to reclaim the promise of public education. Teachers and community groups have been uniting over the last year around a shared vision for improving our schools and creating a more equitable society. Together, they are doubling down to invest in a new direction for public education to make sure schools are places where all kids can thrive, where voices closest to the classroom are heard, where students truly have access to equal opportunity to learn, and where student achievement significantly advances.

Watch this short video to understand why public education is a right worth reclaiming and investing in for our democracy.
