Despite Mayor’s Veto, Majority of D.C. Residents Support Living Wage

New polling from Hart Research released today indicates strong support for D.C.’s big-box living wage bill. The Large Retailer Accountability Act (LRAA), championed by DC Jobs with Justice and Respect DC, would guarantee living wages from retailers with over $1 billion annual profits and stores over 75,000 square feet.

The LRAA is set for a City Council vote tomorrow to override Mayor Gray’s veto of the bill. Respect DC released the polling results today, stating:

Seventy-one percent of voters voiced their support in a survey conducted this weekend, with large majorities saying the bill will have positive effects not only on workers’ wages, but also on jobs, employment and the local economy.  Support was particularly high in Wards 5 and 7.  Additionally, 63 percent of voters said that they would be more likely to support a mayoral candidate in 2014 who supports the LRAA.

Supporters of the LRAA are hosting a rally at noon tomorrow to call on the council to override the mayor’s veto. RSVP for the rally on Facebook.
