Salary: Commensurate with experience

The Organization:

Missouri Jobs with Justice (JwJ) is a coalition of labor, religious, student and community activists and organizations committed to address the root causes of poverty while working for an economic base that benefits the entire community.

We believe that the fate of labor unions and the communities in which their members live are tightly bound together. We work in partnership with central labor councils, local unions, civil rights organizations, students, community, and faith-based organizations in mobilizing direct actions for civil and human rights for all people, including the right to organize a union, rebuilding the social safety net, living wages, health care, and equal treatment for all.

The Position:

The Statewide Projects Organizer will work will build and develop the growing Jobs with Justice membership, leadership and campaign organizing throughout Missouri.  This will include significant travel, work with grassroots leaders and the coordination multiple, simultaneous campaigns and projects to ensure greatest impact.  Key areas of statewide campaign work include health care policy, support for public programs and public work, collective bargaining rights and fair wages (minimum wage, prevailing wage).

Responsibilities:

Coalition Building and Management  Jobs with Justice is a coalition organization with key strategic alliances that extend beyond even our member organizations.  Statewide projects and campaigns are guided by subsets of member organizations and their leaders that set priorities and guide the work ongoing.  A JwJ organizer will need to work with high level member organization leaders and plan, manage and meet the needs and priorities of multiple member organizations and key allies involved in any given statewide project.

Campaign Development and Management. JwJ is often called to rapid response, developing and deploying plans quickly in response to a crisis facing workers.  The Statewide Projects Organizer will be key to leading the development of rapid response plans and may recruit and supervise temporary organizing staff at high points in campaigns.

Leadership Development: Missouri Jobs with Justice works collaboratively with our national network to hold three-day leadership development trainings. The Statewide Projects Organizer will identify and recruit leaders for this program.  S/he may also become a member of the national training team.

Fundraising: The Executive Director provides key staff leadership for fundraising.  However, all staff have his/her own fundraising goals and ensure other staff and leaders are reaching their goals as part of the broader organizational fundraising plan and their own workplans.

Qualifications

-Solid, commitment to the principles of social and economic justice

-Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

-Ability to be a self-starter, and to work independently toward agreed upon goals.

-A strong ability to motivate people, coordinate volunteer activity and delegate responsibility.

-Ability to develop and maintain relationships with a wide range of organizations and people.

-An understanding of the labor movement, religious organizations and other social movements, especially within communities of color.

-Minimum of three years grassroots organizing experience.

-Demonstrated ability to raise funds.

-Willingness to work long hours, including nights and weekends.

-Proficient in computer skills, including database management, word processing and desktop publishing.

-Own vehicle available for work (mileage is reimbursed).

Also desired: Supervisory experience, Ability to speak languages other than English. .  Knowledge of, and/or participation in, Jobs with Justice in Missouri or other communities.  Experience with health care campaigns, state and federal revenue campaigns or minimum wage campaigns.
