Sarita Gupta, Jobs with Justice and American Rights at Work Executive Director, Wins Prestigious BENNY Award

Washington, D.C. – Tonight, Jobs with Justice and American Rights at Work Executive Director Sarita Gupta will be honored with the Business Ethics Network (BEN) Individual Achievement Award for her decades of successful work on economic and social justice, and for her leadership in bringing together diverse efforts into powerful coalitions for change.

BEN introduced the annual BENNY Awards in 2005 to recognize outstanding corporate campaign victories, and to celebrate the dedicated people leading the movement to transform corporations into socially and environmentally responsible organizations.

Previous Individual Achievement Award winners include Lois Gibbs and Sister Pat Daly. Gupta joins a distinguished group of award winners this year, including the “Dump ALEC!” campaign, the “Value [the] Meal” campaign, and the “Ending the Toxic Crisis & Lockout at Sun Capital's Emerald Performance.” Each of these campaigns won a significant victory in corporate transformation in the last year, and will be honored along with the Occupy Wall Street movement, which was given special recognition for its impact on national and international perspectives on justice and public power.

“BEN is a such a critical partner through its work to resource our movement in holding corporations accountable. I’m humbled and honored to accept this award,” Gupta said, adding, “It really belongs to our entire network of local coalitions, our allies, and the courageous, hardworking activists who join us in our work every day to ensure we have an economy that works for all.”
